James Robert Murphy has been a songwriter and performer since the early 1970s, creating music across multiple genres from blues to country/folk/Americana. He is currently producing The 2920 Sessions, a series of recordings in his home studio featuring El Paso artists performing his compositions. Notable releases include the award-winning 4-CD blues box set "A History of Blues" (2012) and the folk collection "The Way Things Used To Be" (2019), featuring songs written during his decade of hitchhiking adventures. Recently retired, Murphy has turned his focus to jazz, releasing "Jazz: The 2920 Sessions" in 2020 and "Park North" in 2021, marking his exploration into this new genre with thoughtful compositions and cleaner production.
